Lets read the text!

PART 1

Once upon a time, there was a little koala. He was a baby koala. People thought he came from Australia. Kangaroos also come from Australia. But really, he came from a magic land. The magic land was called Koalia.

A girl named Liza met the koala in a supermarket. She went shopping with her dad. She saw the toy and stopped. She could not move. She loved it at first sight.

Her dad understood. No long words were needed. They walked home together: Dad held Lizas hand, and Liza hugged the wonderful little animal.

Liza thought she was a very kind girl. She gave the toy a special name Kualyosha. She made the name from two words: koala and the name Alyosha. The letter u went into the name. It just happened, with no rules. It sounded nice.

PART 2

At that time, Liza was in kindergarten. She had two teachers Alla and Marina. Their patronymic was the same: Nikolaevna. A patronymic is a name from the father. Liza wanted to give Kualyosha a different patronymic.

First, she liked Kualyoshevich. It sounded grown-up. But then she chose another: Lvovich. It comes from the word Lev, which means lion. A lion is the king of animals. Koalas are calm and strong, so it was a good patronymic. Liza also gave him her family name.

Kualyosha at home

She wrote all the details in a small passport. She put the passport in her little purse, just in case.

Kualyosha Lvovich was a very calm and quiet boy. Sometimes he was so quiet that Liza lost him. And that happened now.

PART 3

Liza and her parents went to Phuket. One evening, they had dinner in a restaurant at a hotel near the sea. Liza forgot Kualyosha on the table. She went home with her parents late that evening.

Kualyosha alone on the beach

Kualyosha was alone all night. He did not close his eyes. He felt sad and lonely. He hoped Liza would come back. But she did not.

In the morning, tourists went to breakfast.

A boy named Alyosha saw the toy on the table. He was very happy. He showed it to his parents at once. But his mum and dad told him the toy belonged to someone else. They promised to buy him new shiny galoshes at home. Those were his dream shoes. After breakfast, the family went to the reception. They told the girl where they found the toy. Dad spoke in broken English. The girl understood everything. She smiled and took the little koala.

Alyosha finds Kualyosha

PART 4

At the same time, Liza was on the plane. She and her parents saw that the toy was missing. Mum told Liza to sleep. Liza wanted to sleep with Kualyosha. But when Mum looked in the bag, the toy was not there. Liza slept badly. In her short dream, she sat on a sun lounger with Kualyosha near the sea. She whispered travel notes to him, as usual.

When they came home, Dad sent an email to the hotel. He put a photo of Liza and Kualyosha in the email. Mum took that photo on a boat. Dad was diving in the sea. Liza and Kualyosha were sunbathing on the deck. The red sun was half in the ocean. Rocks stood in the water, like sharp teeth of a sea monster. Liza smiled and hugged her favourite toy.

Later, Dad phoned the hotel. He asked, Did you find a small koala?

Yes, yes, the hotel answered. He is here! He sits at the reception. He waits for his owner. We will look after him.

The parents sent an email with thanks. They asked the hotel to send Kualyosha to Moscow as a parcel. They checked the address carefully.

The kind hotel workers washed the toy. After the dryer, Kualyoshas head was a little bigger. Nobody in that faraway country noticed. At the post office, they wrapped him in bubble wrap. Children and adults like to pop the bubbles. It is a pleasant activity. It helps to calm the nerves.
