Генри Джеймс

Генри Джеймс (англ. Henry James; 15 апреля 1843, Нью Йорк — 28 февраля 1916, Лондон) — американский писатель, который с тридцати лет жил в Европе, а за год смерти принял британское гражданство. Брат выдающегося психолога Уильяма Джемса. Крупная фигура трансатлантической культуры рубежа XIX и XX веков. За 51 год литературного творчества он написал 20 романов, 112 рассказов и 12 пьес. Красной нитью через всё его творчество проходит тема непосредственности и наивности представителей Нового Света, которые вынуждены приспосабливаться либо бросать вызов интеллектуальности и коварству клонящегося к упадку Старого Света («Дейзи Миллер», 1878; «Женский портрет», 1881; «Послы», 1903). Родился в семье известного американского богослова. В детстве много времени проводил в Европе (Женева, Париж, Лондон).
