"Remember yourself" does not call for recalling past experiences; rather, it points to the need to awaken from the "sleep" in which the ordinary person dwells. It is about the awakening of consciousness and the attainment of inner unity and true Will.
The key idea is that a person lives in a state of mechanicalness—acting as a "machine" driven by external influences and by internal emotions and thoughts that arise involuntarily. The task is to cease being a machine and to become a conscious being.
