Джордж Мартин — известный американский писатель-фантаст, сценарист, продюсер и редактор, обладатель множества престижных литературных премий, включая «Хьюго», «Локус», «Небьюла», «Балрог» и премию Брэма Стокера. Джордж Рэймонд Ричард Мартин родился 20 сентября 1948 года в Бейонне, штат Нью-Джерси, в семье портового грузчика. С детства он увлекался чтением и сочинял жуткие рассказы. В старших классах школы его интерес переключился на комиксы, и он начал писать для любительских фэнских журналов. В 1971 году Мартин получил высшее журналистское образование в Северо-Западном университете Эванстона, штат Иллинойс. Именно тогда в февральском номере журнала Galaxy Science Fiction был опубликован его первый рассказ «Герой». После окончания университета Мартин работал в различных областях: проходил альтернативную гражданскую службу при Фонде юридической помощи округа Кук, организовывал шахматные турниры для Континентальной шахматной ассоциации, преподавал журналистику в колледже Кларка в Дубь…Подробнее
